Mission Report |

Dear Friends, Do you believe God provides answers to your prayers? He does, and yet we don’t pray like we should until we get in a desperate situation. Lately we have seen some wonderful answers to prayers that I would like to share with you. These answered prayers remind me of Isaiah 65:24 which says, “Before they call, I will answer; while they are still speaking, I will hear.” Two weeks ago a couple came to visit the Center because they wanted to get involved. We discovered that the wife could speak Russian fluently. A few days later I was trying to talk with a Ukranian Christian about how to talk to Jehovah’s Witnesses about Jesus. Demetri has a very good friend in Canada who is a JW. As we were trying to understand each other, I prayed, “Lord, help me help him.” Then I remembered our new potential volunteer. I told Dimetri that the next time he returned to port I was going to introduce him to my new Russian speaking volunteer. He was excited about that news and said he would return around the 18th of February. (Please pray for that meeting.) I talked to my new volunteer a few days later and discovered that she also had a lot of experience with Jehovah’s Witnesses. I shook my head as I considered the great love of the Lord. He has heard and is answering Demetri’s prayers. In January the Christian fellowship on the Norwegian Gem wrote to request some help to find a used laptop computer. The fellowship on the ship needed one for power point presentations and to play DVD’s of worship music. We began to look for used computer businesses, but a few days later a man came to the center and donated a very nice laptop. Our computer administrator checked it out and set it up for their use and we e-mailed the good news to the Gem. I can’t wait to see the faces of these Christian brothers and sisters when they receive God’s answer to their prayers. The night of our Volunteer training, February 9, a new volunteer offered me two tickets to the Space Center for the seafarers. One was for an adult and the other one was for a child and they were only good for the next day. I responded graciously but I commented, “We don’t have any children that come to the center.” The next day I remembered my words when I saw the wife and two children of a cruise ship officer come into the center. I immediately went to the mom and told her about the tickets. She smiled brightly and said, “We wanted to take our children to NASA but we never have had a chance”. I knew their daughter Sonya was 18 or 19 but I was afraid that George might be too old to use the child’s ticket. “How old is your son?,” I asked. “He’s 12, well actually he’s 11, but he’ll be 12 later this week,” said the mom. I shook my head in amazement as I looked again to read that the ticket was only good for those 11 and under. I marveled at God’s amazing grace that he shares with us in so many ways. I believe that the ministry this family has experienced will open doors for the ministry to cruise ship crews in the future. “Seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened for you, ask and it shall be given to you.” I hope these examples will encourage you to pray and look for the Lord’s answers. Only by His grace, |
