FLORIDA PORT MINISTRIES

Annie Armstrong, for whom the annual North American Mission offering is named, once commented on the international influx through the port of Baltimore, where she lived: “Men and means were not forthcoming fast enough for the great work of foreign missions, so God turned the stream this way and sent great masses of the unevangelized to come in contact with Christians.”  Annie Armstrong made this comment in the late 1800s.  Today, the stream continues to flow.  Thousands of people travel through Florida ports every year.  Internationals serve on cargo and cruise ships.  Many of these travel the world, leaving families behind.

God uses port ministries to touch the seafarers.  Many find a warm welcome at the seafarer’s center.  The lonely father gets to see his wife and children through Skype, provided by the port ministry.  Recreational activities helps to burn off cooped up energy.  Essential items can be purchased and receive a hot meal for free.

Many seafarers come to know Christ and become missionaries as they travel back home.  Chaplain Steve Finnesy shares the following report from Tampa Port Ministries:

September was full of excitement for us at the Seafarers Center. We were able to visit 75 ships in September and had 52 Seafarers visit the center during the month. 31 Seafarers accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior in September!!! These 31 were from all around the world and these countries are represented in their numbers: Philippines, Columbia, Panama and India. That makes a total of 286 Seafarers that have accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior so far this year. We continue to appreciate your prayers and support.

Port Ministries in Florida continues to expand.  Chaplain Dan Bailey directed Space Coast Seafarers Ministry for 14 years.  For many years, Dan has dreamed of opening a center at Port Miami, the largest port in Florida and one of the largest in America.  That dream has become reality.  God opened the door and gave Dan the desires of his heart.  Please pray for Dan as he steps out in faith that God will provide for his personal and ministry needs.

Port Ministries affiliated with the Florida Baptist Convention are listed below.  Please pray for them!  Explore their web sites!  Help your Church to see this unique mission field!  Find ways to support them with volunteers and funding!  All have many needs!  All are touching the world with the good news of Jesus Christ.
